Perplexity Rank Tracker
Ask Perplexity a question the way a buyer would. See its answer, the pages it cites, every page it read, the Reddit threads among them, and whether your own site is cited.
Want to show up in the threads Perplexity cites?
RedShip finds the Reddit threads that matter to you and alerts you in time to reply.
Where does Perplexity get its information?
Perplexity is a search engine that answers in sentences. For every question, it searches the web first, reads the pages it found, writes an answer from them, and numbers each source next to the sentence it supports. Nothing comes from memory alone.
For a buyer who asks "what is the best tool for X", those numbered pages decide which products get named. This tool shows you which pages they are.
How to check what Perplexity cites for a question
With the tracker above. Type the question the way a buyer would ask it, and pick a country. The tracker asks Perplexity and shows you four things: the answer, the pages it cites, every page it found in its search, and the Reddit threads among them. Each number in the answer matches a page in the source list. Add your domain to see if your site is cited or only found.
By hand. Open Perplexity and ask the question. The sources appear above the answer, and each number in the text links to one of them. This shows the cited pages, but not every page Perplexity found, and you have to repeat it for every question.
Cited, found or absent: what the result means
The tracker puts your site in one of three cases.
- Cited. Perplexity numbers one of your pages in its answer. The position shows how early it appears in the source list.
- Found, but not cited. Your page came up in Perplexity's search, but the answer was written from other pages. You are close: the search finds you, the answer prefers another source.
- Not found. None of your pages came up in the search for this question. Start with being findable for it.
Does Perplexity use Reddit?
Yes, more than any other AI engine. Perplexity cites Reddit threads often, because people there compare products and answer each other in plain words, which is exactly what a question like "best X for Y" needs.
That makes Perplexity the engine where a Reddit thread matters most. A thread it cites is the one source in the list you can take part in: a helpful reply puts your product inside a page Perplexity already uses.
How to rank in Perplexity
Perplexity has no ranking list like Google's top 10. "Ranking" means being among the pages it finds and cites. What helps:
- Be findable by its search. Perplexity runs its own index, and pages that rank for the question on regular search engines are found more often. Do not block its crawler, PerplexityBot, in your robots.txt.
- Answer the question in one clear passage. Perplexity cites the page that supports a sentence. A short paragraph that answers the question directly is easy to cite; an answer spread over a long page is not.
- Be named on the pages Perplexity cites. Look at the cited pages for your questions: comparison articles, review sites, Reddit threads. Being mentioned there counts, even when your own site is not cited.
- Check again. Answers change. Run the same questions every few weeks.
Why does Perplexity give a different answer each time?
Perplexity writes every answer fresh, and its search can return different pages from one day to the next. Two people asking the same question can get different products named. One check is a snapshot. The pages that come back check after check are the ones that matter.
What this tool does not check
The tracker asks Perplexity's Sonar model through its API, from the country you pick. It is close to the Perplexity app, but not the app itself: the app can use a larger model, Pro search with several rounds of research, and your past questions. It checks one question at a time, and the result is kept for 7 days.
Follow the threads, not just one question
Your buyers ask Perplexity many versions of the same question, and new Reddit threads start ranking every week. RedShip finds the Reddit threads that rank on Google and in AI answers for your keywords, and tells you which ones are worth a reply. Check a question here, and let RedShip watch the rest.
