What Is a Crosspost?
A crosspost (also called an x-post) is when you share a Reddit post from one subreddit to another. Unlike reposting, crossposting creates a link back to the original post, giving credit to the source and allowing users to participate in both discussions.
Reddit has a built-in crosspost feature that makes this easy — it maintains the connection between the original post and the crossposted version, so engagement can flow between both communities.
Why It Matters for Marketers
Crossposting is a legitimate way to expand your content's reach across multiple relevant communities without being seen as a spammer. Since it credits the original post, it's generally more accepted than posting the same content separately in multiple subreddits.
However, not all subreddits allow crossposts, and the community may react differently to crossposted content. Always check subreddit rules before crossposting, and make sure the content is genuinely relevant to the target community.
Examples
- A detailed guide posted in r/marketing gets crossposted to r/startups where it's equally relevant.
- A product launch announcement in r/SaaS gets crossposted to r/sideproject for additional visibility.
- An insightful comment thread in a niche subreddit gets crossposted to a larger related community.
